Nick Astro – “Courtney (Never Catch Me)”

Nick Astro Courtney

Nick Astro released a new track on New Years Eve that we dropped the ball on the posting. For the very first time, Nick speaks on the murder of of his older brother Courtney in a song. You can listen to “Courtney (Never Catch Me)” below. Below are more details on the song.

In 2004 my older brother Courtney was shot and killed by a white police officer, Scott Mars in Minneapolis, Minnesota. In this case my family heard the same buzzwords you hear in similar cases today, “was in fear for my life” – “he lunged towards me” – “we mistaken his pellet gun with a real one”
I’m not going to go into the details of this case for this is actually my first time mentioning what happened to my brother in a song.
It’s not hard to see I am reliving what happened to him through these recent similar cases around the nation.
There’s a saying used by black folk “We don’t die we multiply” and my perspective of that saying never spoke volumes until now.
Whether it’s his mannerisms, his pain, his joy, his perspective, his story, my brother Courtney lives through me.
