Review: Our 5 Favorite Songs On Logic’s ‘The Incredible True Story’

Logic The Incredible True Story

Logic wasted no time in releasing a follow up project to his Def Jam debut Under Pressure by releasing The Incredible True Story a little over a year later. Word is some of the songs off of his Def Jam debut were held over for the sophomore album. Logic did things a little bit different this time and wrote a sci-fi epic to serve as the main focus of the project with his music being the background for the epic. Logic wrote the script in one sitting and in my opinion, it is a breathe of fresh air to have a project like this drop in 2015. There a total of 18 tracks on the album including skits, so it was tough choosing my 5 favorite songs. Hit the jump and see if you agree with my choices or have a different top 5.

“Young Jesus” feat. Big Lenbo

This track was our first glimpse into the new project and I was happily surprised to hear Big Lenbo going back and forth with Logic on the new joint. I had heard of Big Lenbo’s name on previous projects when getting shouted out by Logic, but I wasn’t aware he could spit the way he did. This is hands down one of the standout tracks off of the album and it is no surprise that it was the first single.

“I Am The Greatest”

Logic has been known to be braggadocios on tracks in the past and he can easily back it up. He definitely backs it up throughout this whole album. When I saw the title for this song, I already knew what to expect. Funny thing is, Logic is pretty nonchalant on this track almost as if he is provoking other emcees to test him. This track also features some of my favorite lines on the project.

And now I bet they bitchin’ cause my flow switchin’
Tryna tell me what to write, up on some fan-fiction
Can’t they just be happy I no longer have to face eviction?
That I’m livin’ out my life, I’m livin’ out my inner vision right now
I be on my Big L braggadocios rap shit
I could flow on anything from Premo to that trap shit

“Like Woah”

Whenever I make these top 5 songs off of an album list, I tend to always choose a song that I feel will get the best reaction at a live show. At the end of the day, the artists live show is as equally important as any project he or she releases. If you don’t have a good live show, you probably won’t last very long in the industry. Luckily for Logic, his live show is pretty dope. “Like Woah” has the potential of being a fan favorite at his forthcoming tour alongside songs like “Young Jesus” and “Fade Away.”

“City Of Stars”

This song could’ve easily made it onto Kanye’s 808s & Heartbreak and was obviously an inspiration for the song. It really shows what kind of range Logic has and the potential he has for future albums. It is a bit different from what we’ve heard from him in the past, but it is only his sophomore album. We will surely hear Logic grow as an artist on future albums in the next few years. And if you started to question his bars on this song, he switches it up 4 minutes into the song and spazzes.

Much love to Def Jam, even though they under shipped me
Did me like Bobby did Whitney but the fans was with me
Know my name around the world but it still ain’t hit me
All the talent in the world and they still don’t get me
I didn’t talk about my race on the whole first album
But black vs white bullshit was the still the outcome
How come these motherfuckers can’t seem to let it go
Judging rap by race instead of the better flow
Who gives a fuck who made it, I penetrated and innovated

“Never Been”

I’ve watched many Logic interviews over the past few years and it is very obvious his fans are very important to him. He has made many songs in the past that are meant to inspire his fans. “Never Been” can be added to that list as well. It is a feel good track that features production by our fellow Chicagoan, C-Sick.

Other Key Tracks: “Fade Away” & “Lord Willin”
