Review: Our 5 Favorite Songs off of Mac Miller’s ‘GO:OD AM’

Mac Miller

Mac Miller hasn’t released a project since dropping Faces back in May last year, and his last studio album being released almost a year before that back in 2013. So it has been quite a while for Mac Miller fans, but that all changes this Friday (9/18). However, this new album is special as it is his first major label album with Warner Bros. To help you out with the release of the 17-track GO:OD AM, we have reviewed the album and made a list of our five favorite tracks off of the album that you can see below. It was tough to narrow it down to these top five, so let us know if you agree with our choices or have a completely different top five.

“Brand Name”

This is the second track off of the album and our first full track to listen to on GO:OD AM. He speaks about many topics on “Brand Name” including not wanting to join the 27 club (Kurt Cobain, Amy Winehouse, Jimi Hendrix, etc.), still being compared to Eminem, not being able to visit Pittsburgh as much as he’d like and more.

“Weekend” feat. Miguel

I was not too sure what to expect from the Miguel feature on the album even though I am a fan of his music. The song sounded like it was made organically and the hook featuring both artists sounds really dope. It is more upbeat that your usual Miguel feature. It would be a good look if the song ended making its way onto radio.

“In The Bag”

With what sounds like Damier Genesis giving Mac some props at the beginning of the song, the only thing Mac Miller could do was turn up on the song. The song has a very dope beat and with Mac spitting “So this the music that make white people mad. Yeah, this the shit that blow your speakers out. This the shit you dream about” on the hook, you can’t help but rock with this joint. That ScHoolboy Q bit at the end of the song is hilarious as well.

“When In Rome”

Mac Miller using the Migos flow on “When In Rome” is one of the highlights on the album. This will surely be a hit at Mac’s live shows and would really work as an opening song on his new tour in support of the album. It’s really between this song and “In The Bag” as the perfect intro for the new tour.

“Break The Law”

Mac raps his ass off on this song, so it was a was an easy choice for this list.

“So many people told me that I wouldn’t be shit,
But now I walk around with money and my hand on my dick,
I think I’m special, I’m drinking whiskey out the bottle ’til I black out,
One million, two million, shit I’m losing track now,
Coming to you live inside the crack house”

This is also the second official single off of the album, so you know Mac and his team really feel the same way about the song. Plus, you can’t go wrong with Juicy J ad-libs throughout the song. The Three 6 Mafia legend also jumps in here and there on “In The Bag.”

Other Key Songs: “Ascension” & “100 Grandkids”
