Everyone who knows of Kurt Cobain understands he’s one of the most important figures in music to come out of the last 25 years but not many know of what he did before Nevermind. Back in 1988, before the release of Nirvana’s debut album Bleach, Cobain put together a collage of clips from different songs (and other sounds) with a four-track cassette recorder and called it “Montage Of Heck.”

The mixtape-of-sorts serves as a look into the mind of a young Kurt Cobain and the music in his collection.
