Allow us to inform you, in case you didn’t know this by now, that Queens Of The Stone Age are, without a doubt, one of the best bands performing live these days and their show at the Aragon last Friday was more than enough proof of that. The desert rockers took over the legendary Uptown music venue and put on a show that won’t soon be forgotten by any of those who were in attendance.

The only other time I’ve seen Josh Homme and company perform live was at last year’s Lolla, but I didn’t get to see the whole set due to having to leave Grant Park for a bit to meet the girl who was buying my extra 3-day wristband (damn her) and then having to make my way to see Chano at an adjacent stage. That performance, while entertaining, didn’t captivate me the way this show did. I was lucky enough to get a photo pass for this sold-out show and being in front of what was technically the first row for those first couple of songs (one of which was “No One Knows”!) was enough to make this concert officially dope right off the bat.

The set list was packed with some of the band’s previous hits like “3’s and 7’s,” “Little Sister,” and “Go With The Flow” that got the whole place rocking but it was the newer, …Like Clockwork songs that really lit up the place. “If I Had A Tail” (above) got everyone dancing and grooving like if we were at a disco, “I Sat By The Ocean” made you you raise your “devil horns” and “The Vampyre of Time and Memory” was the perfect selection for an encore, especially as Homme appeared under a barely-there spotlight and played the keys. No theatrics needed here, just a brilliant band doing what they do best: Rocking the house and leaving the crowd with a true musical experience.
