We were lucky enough to be invited to a private screening of “Doin’ It In The Park” last night at the ICON Theater thanks to the great people at Nike. The film was directed by Bobbito Garcia and Kevin Couliau; and they were actually on hand to answer a couple of the audience’s questions as soon as the film ended. The film featured New York City’s Pick-Up Basketball scene and it’s history. Bobbito and Kevin got on their bicycles and peddled all over New York City and explored the history, culture, and social impact of New York’s summer b-ball scene, widely recognized as the worldwide “Mecca” of the sport. Bobbito and Kevin interviewed street hooping legends, NBA Players, and the regular common basketball player at each courtyard. The greatest quote in the documentary that hit the whole audience was, “You can play high school or college for four years. You can play Pro for a decade. You can play pick-up … for life.” This documentary is a must see for anyone who has played a pickup game outside. The film is actually set to publicly release here in Chicago tomorrow at the ICE Lawndale Theater (3330 W. Roosevelt Road) at 7PM until June 20th. If you aren’t able to catch it in theaters, you can download the movie for $9.99 by CLICKING HERE!
