Daughter Covers – “Get Lucky” (Daft Punk Cover)

For as long as there’s been popular music, one of the signs that you’ve got yourself an instant classic is when other artists start covering your songs not long after their release (like when Jimi Hendrix covered Sgt. Pepper just 3 days after it was released). Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky” was officially released just over a week ago and saying it’s an excellent and catchy song is an understatement. A testament to that is Daughter’s new cover of the track; the UK band removes the disco guitar and slows the beat down a considerable amount yet doesn’t let its words lose their essence. While the Pharrell and Nile Rodgers original sounds like an ode to the nightlife, Daughter’s version not only sounds darker but it also conveys a sense of longing which fits perfectly. Hear it above.
