RECAP: BEATS – Summer Music Series 6.28.12

The Beats Summer Music Series has gained some major momentum.  The second installment of the Beats Summer Music Series successfully delivered a diverse set of musical performances spanning across genres.  To top it off, Reebok adorned the table tops at Red Kiva with their iconic Reebok Pumps kicks.  What better way to celebrate music than alongside iconic kicks!

The vibe at Red Kiva was very chill, with people from all ranges of the city in attendance, intermingling and having a good time.  Before the musical acts kicked off their sets, the crowd enjoyed interacting with the various Sponsors and their products.  Needless to say, the event only became more fun and wildly entertaining as the musical acts migrated to the stage.

DJ Pascale:
Aside from being the resident DJ of the night, DJ Pascale stepped on stage for a short set.  DJ Pascale came on stage as duo and while he provided the harmonious R&B style singing, his counterpart did the rapping.  It’s always tricky trying to merge both singing and rapping, and with only one song to showcase, I wish that DJ Pascale would have performed a couple of more songs to showcase his talents and depth more thoroughly.  However, as a DJ, he held the venue down with entertaining hits.

The Innovatorz:
@theinnovatorz

Hailing from the suburbs of Chicago, the Innovatorz are a producing duo that have created beats, most notably for 2 Chainz.  During their set, the Innovatorz sampled some of their upcoming beats, as well as composing some impromptu beats for the crowd.  Much less of a performance, and more like a showcase, the Innovatorz gave BEATS a glimpse into the minds behind the beats.

Legit with Decibel:

Hands down, this performance was the highlight of the evening!  Not only were these performers talented, but they had a vibrant stage presence that gave dynamic energy to their set.  The Legit/Decibel combination was explosive.  Legit and Decibel’s sound is very alternative, mixing a live band with flows and raps from an emcee.  I almost felt like I was sitting in on a set from N.E.R.D.  The live band Decibel is composed of a drummer, guitarist and bassist, a keyboardist, and a saxophonist.  Legit’s style as an emcee is very intriguing.  He has a balanced blend of soul, lyricism, and delivery. This set excited me tremendously.  I’ll be on the lookout for them as they continue to perform and continue to release music.  Until then, enjoy snippets of their set.
