With the deadline for potential franchise tagged players, to be signed to long term deals approaching early Monday morning; the Chicago Bears signed RB Matt Forte to a 4 yr. $32 million contract extension. Now, the question on most Bears fans minds is why it actually took so long. Matte Forte is deserving of every penny of his newest contract, and in my opinion even more! He is such a vital, invaluable, and indispensable part of the Chicago Bears offense that it kind of makes sense of why a player like Forte would be so demanding. Forte was about 65 – 70% of the Bears total offense last season. He’s coming off a sprained MCL injury that had him sidelined for the remainder of the 2011 season after a hit to the knee by then Kansas City Chiefs LB Derrick Johnson. Forte at that point came into the game leading the entire NFL in yards from scrimmage with 985 rushing yards and 490 receiving yards. Not even the likes of Chris Johnson, Arian Foster, Adrian Peterson, Frank Gore, Darren McFadden, or MJD were even performing as well as Forte at that point. So how could we not consider Forte to be one of the most Elite RB’s in the NFL. He also finished the season 4th overall in receiving yards for a RB only behind Foster, Rice, and Sproles; Who all played a full 2011 season. So it is without question that Matt Forte deserved every penny of the contract he signed just in time today. Understanding that there are a lot of different variables that could’ve taken a contract this long to be drawn up for a player of Forte’s caliber, we’re just glad they got it done and that’s he’s 100%… So BEAR DOWN CHICAGO and lets enjoy what promises to be an electrifying 2012 season!!
