The AL Central leading Chicago White Sox have acquired veteran infielder Kevin Youkilis, from the Boston Red Sox. All Chicago had to give up to get Kevin Youkilis were Zack Stewart, who was the fifth best arm in the White Sox bullpen, and Brent Lillibridge who had started just three games in the last 16. Chicago also received cash from Boston and will only have to pay about $2 million of Youk’s contract.

Youkilis, who was a huge part of those Red Sox World Series championships a few years, has been struggling with injuries and inconsistency this season. This however should not be something for White Sox fans to be alarmed about.  It may be possible that all he just needed was a new start in a different city.

Youkilis might not be doing well at the plate, but he’s still doing better than the White Sox third basemen. The White Sox didn’t have the money to get more than Youkilis, but this trade might just be the steal of the season. White Sox fans should not be disappointed with not getting a stud to save the situation. Even if Youkilis does not improve at the plate he will be able to bring that boost that will help the White Sox stay competitive.
