“Friendly At The Confines”: Soccer Is Heading Back To Wrigley Field This Summer

Wrigley Field will be hosting the “beautiful game” once again this summer after a decades-long hiatus.

The international “Friendly at the Confines” soccer match between Italy’s AS Roma and Poland’s Zaglebie Lubin will be played in the MLB’s 2nd oldest field at 2:30 p.m. on July 22.

Tickets go on sale Thursday, May 24 at 10:00 a.m. here, prices ranging from $25 to $110 (tax excluded), with the majority of seats listed at $50 or less.

The international friendly will be the first instance in which these two clubs meet. AS Roma’s squad will feature team legend and captain, forward Francesco Totti, former Barcelona forward Bojan Krkic Pérez and Italian international midfielder Daniele De Rossi , while Zaglebie Lubin’s roster includes forwards Szymon Pawlowski and Arkadiusz Wozniak, midfielder Maciej Malkowski and defender Marcin Kowalczyk.

The playing field at Wrigley expected for this game will be similar to the football field layout used during the 2010 Allstate Wrigleyville Classic game between Northwestern and Illinois, running from the third base dugout to right field.

AS Roma will kick off the first leg of their U.S. Tour at Wrigley, followed by stops in Boston and New York.

The last soccer match at Wrigley Field was back in 1984 when the Chicago Sting beat the Vancouver Whitecaps 3-1.
